To be honest, I bought this book and read only Peyton’s words, skipping completely over her mother’s commentary. And what words they are!
“I no oned too long.”
“Weeds grew wherever I was pitied.”
Peyton is a poet. Peyton is a truly amazing person who was hurt badly and then worked to make sure it would not happen to others. Peyton’s words are vital. They need to be read. Sometimes they conjure up images, as in:
“jungles of electricity gyre me.”
and sometimes they are simple and just as powerful:
“Pitied persons understand… It makes you want to die.”
